What a great place! Why isn't all steak covered in onions, peppers and tomatoes? Amazing. A family-run restaurant in a space no bigger than a typical house. Couldn't ask for a better atmosphere, and they give you a whole tray of pickled peppers! Outstanding! Couldn't have asked for a better Father's Day meal.

Last couple times I went I enjoyed their tacos especially when their tortillas are made in house. This time thought I'd see how close their torta is like the one I had in Mexico City. At $9.01, that's higher than average price I paid for all other tortas I had in the area. However, OMG all the ingredients including the bread tastes fresh. I like the bread's buttery hint. Right amount of toppings. I'd say the quality of the chicken cutlet is best so far of all tortas I had in the area. What sucks is it is so thin that even the bread and toppings overwhelm it a little. I see myself ordering it again in the future although maybe not as much as at El Taco Azteca or El Rey Taqueria y Rostiseria.

I love this restaurant. Let me begin by saying this: the first time I wanted to come here, my SO and I left before even walking in. We judged a book by it's cover and I regret doing so. The restaurant is in what used to be a house. There were some customers sitting on the steps and the parking lot was a bit ram shackle. We decided to give La Fondita a second chance, and boy am I glad we did! There were a few gentlemen sipping sodas on the porch, who were quite friendly and welcoming. Once you walk into the restaurant, there is a very homey feel. Picnic table/ bench style tables are crowded into this small room, filled with native Spanish speaking families and fellow college students. The food is delicious, and authentic, to the best of my knowledge. The sauces all taste home made, and not canned. Every meal comes with a set of small jars filled with hot and spicy chiles and sauces. As a vegetarian, I usually have a few stock meal options at every ethnic restaurant. Here, I was surprised to find many different vegetarian options tucked into the menu, like enchiladas in a mole sauce and stuffed with zucchini flowers. The waitress was very accommodating and willing to mix and match some ingredients to suit my dietary restrictions. My meat loving boyfriend swears by the tacos al pastor, and they are his stand by order. Suffice to say, we've been regulars every time we are in the College Park/Hyattsville area! And the prices cannot be beat!
